With the Oscars just around the corner, I find myself reminiscing upon my favourite Movies over the years. Movies play big part in my life. I love going to the cinema and immersing myself in the storyline. Whether is a Romantic comedy or a Horror (although I tend to steer clear of the latter) I get lost in the world of the characters. I equally love watching films at home. Getting my snacks and refreshment ready to be transported to a different reality for 90 minutes.
I have recently been challenged by thebar.com to create a cocktail for a movie night based on a Movie that I love. Without doubt, the first Movie that popped into my head was Sex and the City and the well know Cosmopolitan. The second was a Martini from James Bond….You know the one “Shaken, Not stirred”. But a Cosmopolitan is so much girlier.
So how do you go about making these delicious cocktails I hear you ask? Well my friend, I was in the same boat. I have said before that I’m not really a ‘big drinker’ but I do love the idea of creating my own delicious cocktail and shakin’ up a storm every now and again. Lucky thebar.com is a website that provides you with all of the information you need to know to create your own cocktails at home.
So I set about gathering all of the ingredients that I needed to create my Cosmopolitan cocktail. All ready to go, I got a little nervous as I’ve got a bad track record when following directions for food and drinks. Thankfully, the step were so well written and easy peasy to follow- even I didn’t go wrong. I had them made in minutes which makes them an ideal drink to make a parties and get togethers. More time with friends and less time in the Kitchen.
A little bit of Cosmopolitan History
The cosmopolitan cocktail believe it or not actually dates back to the 1920’s, although back then the ingredients and ratios were a little different to what it is now. It was then made popular again by Madonna in the 1990’s when she was spotted drinking the deliciously pink drink at a grammy awards party. Again the drink was catapulted into popularity in the 1990’s when it was the chosen drink of Carrie and Co in Sex and The City.
Once made, why not pop them on a mirrored tray to glam them up and impress your guests?! Have you thought about inviting some friends round to celebrate the Oscars? What cocktails would you choose to make? Here are a few others on my ‘to try’ list
The White Russian
So, I guess now all that’s left to say is CHEERS!
A big thanks to thebar.com for sponsoring this post and helping me expand my cocktail skills.
