DIY Quote Cushions

Winter is all about snuggling up in your favourite pj’s, cup of tea in hand watching rain against the window. So why not revamp your room and make it extra cosy with some easy DIY quote cushions. These stylish pillows are the perfect way to add a touch of luxury to your bedroom this winter.

Here’s how to make them:

You will need:

Pillow cases/cushion covers

Cushion inners

Fabric paint (I used Dylon)

Printed quotes

Paint brushes of various sizes

I made my cushion covers by cutting down some plain pillow cases to the fit the size of my cushion inners, but you can use any plain cushion covers you have.

If you want a template for the lettering, print off your chosen words in large type onto white paper and place under the first layer of your cushion cover. This will give you a guide to trace around when painting, it will also act as a barrier to stop the paint soaking through to the back layer. Ensure it is evenly placed in the middle of your cushion by measuring from the top to the bottom.

Give your paint a good shake before opening and start to apply a thin layer using your paintbrush. Work your way along the lettering until you have an even covering. I used black and gold paint for my cushions and only needed one coat as the paint was nice and thick.

Let your paint dry before covering the wording with a clean piece of fabric and running a hot iron over your work to heat set it. The cushions can now be washed as normal.

And you are done, all that’s left to do is stuff your inners back in and enjoy your DIY printed cushions.

They look great with a chunky, knit blanket on crisp white bedding, so why not give your bedroom a stylish makeover with a little handmade twist this winter.
