Crochet Granny Square tutorial

 

A while ago I did a video tutorial showing you how to make a granny square. A few had asked for a written pattern, so here it is:

Yarn used: Stylecraft Special DK: http://bit.ly/2y0p8wC

This is UK terms (for US terms please used the conversion chart)

Ch   = Chain
Tr    = Treble crochet
Sl st = Slip stitch
Use the appropriate hook size for your yarn- details of this can be found on your yarn cover/label.
Ch 6 stitches, insert hook into first chain to make a circle

 

Round one

Ch 3 (this will count as your first Tr)  working into the middle of the circle: 2 Tr, Ch3, 3Tr, Ch 3, 3Tr, Ch 3, 3Tr, Ch 3. Insert hook into third chain from the centre and SS.

Round 2

Ch 4, 3Tr into next chain space (corner) Ch3, 3Tr (into same corner) Ch1, 3Tr, Ch3, 3Tr (into same corner), Ch1, 3Tr, Ch3, 3Tr (into same corner), Ch1, 3Tr, Ch3, 2Tr, insert hook into third chain and SS.

Round 3

Ch3, 2Tr into chain space, Ch1, 3Tr, Ch3, 3Tr (into same corner), Ch1, 3Tr, Ch1, 3Tr, Ch3, 3Tr(into same corner), Ch1, 3Tr, Ch1, 3Tr, Ch3, 3Tr,(into same corner) Ch1, 3Tr, Ch1, 3Tr, Ch3, 3Tr (into same corner), Ch1, insert yarn into third chain from hook and SS.

Round 4

Ch4, 3Tr into next chain space, Ch1, 3Tr, Ch3, 3Tr (into same corner), Ch1, 3Tr, Ch1, 3Tr, Ch1, 3Tr, Ch3, 3Tr (into same corner), Ch1, 3Tr, Ch1, 3Tr, Ch1, 3Tr, Ch3, 3Tr (into same corner), Ch1, 3Tr, Ch1, 3Tr, Ch1, 3Tr, Ch3, 3Tr (into same corner), Ch1, 2Tr, insert yarn into third chain from hook and SS.

    Hi Bella thank you for you video it helped me a lot I have started my granny square I'm making mine into a cover for my seat on my wheelchair I will try and send you a picture when it's done thank you again Michelle x

    On round 1 it says to 'chain 3' twice in a row, is this a typo or are we supposed to chain 6? Love your tutorials, I'm just a slow learner 😉

    Thank you after battling for 2 hours to figure out a simple granny square from other internet sites I finally watched your video and WOW I could crotchet these little squares in a flash. Thank you from sunny South Africa
